If you haven’t seen David Fincher’s terrific new Netflix crime drama Mindhunter, we strongly suggest you check it out as it’s one of the most compelling shows of the year and I’d be lying if I told you I hadn’t already binged the first ten episodes in little under two days.
Without giving away any spoilers, the series is based on a true crime book by two former special agents working in the early days of criminal psychology as they studied the traits and thinking patterns of some of America’s most notorious serial killers by interviewing them in person.
If that isn’t terrifying enough, we discover the gruesome details of the murders, with the eerie monotones of their voices enough to keep you awake long after you’ve finished watching the series.
However, since series 1 dropped way back in October 2017, we haven’t heard too many details about season 2’s release date and were it not for Mindhunter producer and A-list actress Charlize Theron’s recent slip-up, we would have still been left wondering if it’s even going to drop this year.
Luckily, Ms Theron revealed season 2’s release date on The Howard Stern Show. “Season two is coming out in August. I can’t wait – deep, dark, it’s wonderful,” the South African said.
Speaking about the plot for the upcoming second season in 2017, Fincher said to Billboard, “Next year, we’re looking at the Atlanta child murders, so we’ll have a lot more African-American music which will be nice. The music will evolve.”
The murders Fincher mentioned occurred between the years 1979 and 1981, where at least 29 African-American adults and children were slaughtered. However, Wayne Williams, the person convicted of those crimes, has always maintained his innocence and claimed his conviction was part of an elaborate cover-up by police to protect the real perpetrators- the Ku Klux Klan.
What are your thoughts on Netflix’s hit series? Does it live up to the hype? Or is it just another in a long line of overrated crime dramas?
